Taking over a large wall, Rien à vous montrer (”Nothing to show you”) consisted of over a hundred stills taken from a video by Aurianne Chevandier, printed on A4 paper and pasted on the wall. Produced in the context of the exhibition Précipité at Mains d’
Œuvres (Saint-Ouen, France) it was performed by Gabrielle Taron-Rieussec and wiped out by the city cleaning services in the night that followed.
The prints showed the artist in a hallway, sitting at a table or hanging things on a wall. Shot from the distance, the images could not offer a real understanding of what she was doing, their figurative role was wasted. This created a frustration and clashed with the physical and time effort put into the repetitive gesture of pasting.
Forcing people to get closer to the wall only to grasp the remnants of a performative action, Rien à vous montrer raised the question of what is expected from an artwork.
